My quilt piece is about conditional acceptance... any and all kinds of conditional acceptance.

I remember, as a kid, from the time I started school, wondering why people were so mean to one another sometimes... kids, adults, etc. I wondered why everyone couldn't just be nice to one another.  Being often the subject of ridicule because I was physically larger than most of my peers (both in height and in weight), I remember feeling awful when I got made fun of or when someone pointed out things about me that were "less than desirable" or "different” by "common" standards. I think that this experience with being "othered" at a young age, as well as my innate sensitivity for the inclusion of all human spirits, has caused me to be continually aware of issues of conditional acceptance and the various "cages that we put/society puts people in.”
