Dixon Stetler recently moved from Wilmington, NC, after co-founding an art collective: Independent Art Company. The creative complex houses 12 artist studios, a micro-cinema, and an artist's gallery. Using reclaimed garbage as her medium, Stetler encourages others through collaborative group projects to participate without trepidation. She has demonstrated leadership and community organizing skills through her involvement with early successes of the Cucalorus Film Festival, Dreams of Wilmington, and the Children’s Museum of Wilmington. In 2010, Stetler received the ‘Woman of Achievement’ in the Arts awared by the YWCA of the Lower Cape Fear. Her work is in the permanent collections of The Cameron Art Museum, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Phoenix Employment Ministries.
