My Privileged White Thoughts | Receipts Roll, Ink Pen | 2’x8’x2’ | 2009
For the past five years, I have intentionally studied systemic racism and examined my identity as a white person. Journaling provided a record of processing my understanding of race and my personal role within the system. To create this piece, I wrote out every sentence from my journaling that contained the word white as it pertained to race. This rope of sentences speaks to the long process of developing a realistic understanding of race. The words and sentences are continuous, as is impact of racism in our country.
