The Racial Matter Project utilized art to engage youth in productive conversations about race. The project’s liberatory learning experiences and the integration of art-making contributed significantly to participants’ understanding of racial constructs and their own racial identity. Workshop participants’ and external audiences’ understanding of race were transformed through encountering and the making of art.
