E-Portfolios using Voicethread

Students used the web 2.0 tool- Voicethread to create an e-portfolio of work they created in their visual arts magnet classes in the past 3 years at Loch Raven Technical Academy.  An e-portfolio is a digital portfolio that helps to organize the students work and to help them be reflective on their progress as an artist.  They can easily identify ways that their skills and interests have broadened and can reflect on how they hope to improve in future works of art.  Voicethread also allows students to comment on each other's work to gain feedback and encouragement.  Here are a few links to their work:

Personal Artist Logo Design

Students used Adobe Photoshop to create a graphic logo design to represent their personal style as an artist.  They researched and compared many logo designs- (Nike, Tostitos, Mc Donald's, Fed Ex...) in order to gain information and inspiration.  Their design will be featured on the cover of thier sketchbook and will also appear on other works of art throughout the year.

Drawing Workshop

All three levels of Visual Arts Magnet students participated in our first ever "Drawing Workshop".   In September, sixth, seventh and eighth grade magnet artists participated in the workshop to refresh thier basic drawing skills.  Our 8th grade artist also served as mentors for their younger peers. Mrs. MK, Mrs. Foti and Mrs. Chenowith co-taught the series, focusing on contour line, negative space, adding value, and compositional structures- foreground, middleground and background.

Art Trading Cards are miniature works of art meant to be traded by the artists, but never sold.  Just like baseball cards or other collectors cards these are created on  2 1/2" x 3 1/2" card stock and usually have a theme.  The theme for this gallery of cards is "Tell me something about you".  Students used a variety of materials and art styles for their series of three.
